FINANCIAL PLEDGES FOR 2017  As part of our worship service today, we will be presenting our 2017 Financial pledges to the Lord.  If you forgot the form that was mailed to members of the church, or you did not get a form, you can get a new form from one of the ushers.  If you forgot your pledge form, please bring it next week or return it to the office so the Financial Stewardship Ministry Team can use the pledge numbers in finalizing the proposed budget for next year.

UNITY SUNDAY NEXT WEEK   Next Sunday is one of the Unity Sundays for our congregation.  Sunday School and Bible Classes begin at 8:45 AM.  We will have one communion service at 10:00 AM.  Following the service, there will be a HTY Café and Voters’ meeting in the Life Center.  The only item of business at this time is the 2017 Worship Schedule.  More items could be added by the Council on Tuesday night.

HTY CAFÉ   Next Sunday, after the Unity Service, come to the life center for a wonderful lunch prepared and served by the youth.  A free will offering will be taken which will go to support the various ministries of the youth group.

The Joy in Receiving God’s Blessings

Today is the start of our stewardship emphasis Experiencing the Joy of Generosity. Our theme for today is “The Joy in Receiving God’s Blessings.” In the words of Billy Graham, “God has given us two hands, one to give with and the other to receive with.” Through the work of the Holy Spirit, we are able to appreciate how generously God gives to us. He provides for us physically and spiritually. God demonstrated his love for us by giving “His only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). First God loved, then he gave, and he keeps on giving. Forgiveness, salvation, and, in fact, all we are and everything we have or ever will have are gifts from God.

A FATHER’S PLEDGE

I pledge allegiance to my home…to my wife…to my sons and daughters.  I will honor my home and consider my trust in supporting it a sacred one.  I will do more than this.  I will take time to cultivate a friendship between myself and my family.  I will not be too busy when they need me…even though it is only to catch a football or mend a doll’s broken leg.  I will love my children as only I can.  I will complement their mother’s hours of care and concern.  I will introduce my children to Jesus and share with them the joy of Christian values in our Christian home.

VBS DECORATING JULY 23RD

VBS is fast approaching and we are buckling down and getting ready.  One of the biggest, and honestly most fun, ways you can help is by helping us decorate.  This year we will transform the education wing and other parts of the church into a magnificent cave to help us better explore God's love.  We will be starting around 4:00pm on July 23rd.  If you would like to help or learn more about VBS this year, please contact Cameron.

DON’T FORGET MISSION U!

We are hosting our next session of Mission U on Saturday, July 23, from 9 AM – 2 PM in Classroom 1.  This session is “Equipping to Share:  Tough Questions.”  Participants will learn how to classify, identify, and get to the root of tough questions and objections to Christianity, and practice giving sensitive and relevant answers that point to the Savior, using messages of “Law” and “Gospel” as appropriate.  The congregation is picking up the costs, including lunch.  Please sign up on the bulletin board in the Narthex by next Sunday so we can order food.

THANK YOU!

Thank you to my Holy Trinity family for the many prayers, cards, visits, calls, and flowers during my recent hospital stays.  They were SO appreciated!  Mary Hartwig

COLLEGE STUDENTS

If you are attending college in the Fall, please contact the Church Office.  We would like to prepare a “care package” for all of our college students and need to know how many to make.  We will have a college “send off” ceremony during both services on July 31st.

SAMARITAN CENTER BACKPACK EVENT

Each year, the Samaritan Center collects items to fill backpacks for local school age children in need.  Each year, our church has supported this event by collecting one item.  This year, we are collecting COLLEGE RULE SPIRAL NOTEBOOKS (single subject size).  Our goal is to collect 1,500 notebooks!  Please pick up a few notebooks when you are at the store (summer school sales will start soon!).  Place the notebooks under the sign in the Giving Center.  Thank you!

LIFE QUOTES

“Christian fatherhood goes beyond merely ensuring that children are well cared for and provided for. A Christian father will also be actively engaged in the rearing of his children. The apostle Paul gives divine counsel both on how to-and how not to–go about this parental function, when he exhorts, “Fathers, do not exasperate your children, instead, bring them up in training and instruction of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4, NIV) Rev. Mark Gullerud, Pastor of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Bowdle, South Dakota - A Life Quote from Lutherans For Life • www.lutheransforlife.org

UPDATE ON THE NURSERY

Due to low usage and difficulty staffing the nursery, it will be converted into a cry room effective the first Sunday in August (08/07/2016).  This means the room is still available for use by parents, however parents will need to stay with their children.   There will not be an adult present to watch the children.  The video feed will continue to be available.  If you have any concerns or comments regarding this conversion, please contact your Elder or the church office.

NATIONAL YOUTH GATHERING

The Youth left Wednesday morning!  They are currently in New Orleans with several thousand other youth praising and learning more about our Lord!  You can follow the events of the Youth Gathering through the Synod’s web site.  It is:  www.lcms.org.  Please keep them all in your prayers.  Those attending are:  Cole Brockoff, Conner Byrd, Kelsey Byrd, Daniel Cearley, Jarrod Eisma, Kendell Faust, Mackie Gregory, Zander Gregory, Abbey Griffin, Aaron Gust, Valerie Gust, Amelia Gutche, Courtney Gutche, Lauren Kellogg, Zeke Peterson, and Matthew Sij.  Their adult leaders are:  Cameron and Terra Pullmann, Pam Pickett, and Dean Eisma.  They should be back at the church on Wednesday, July 20th.

TO THINK ABOUT  …

“The human heart is like a ship on a stormy sea driven about by winds blowing from all four corners of heaven.”

                          – Martin Luther

THE CENTER OF THE BIBLE..........

·       Do you know what the shortest chapter in the Bible is?   Answer:  Psalms 117

·       Do you know what the longest chapter in the Bible is?     Answer:  Psalms 119

·       Do you know the center chapter of the Bible?    Answer:   Psalms 118

·       Fact:  There are 594 chapters before Psalms 118

·       Fact:  There are 594 chapters after Psalms 118

·       Add these numbers and you get 1118.

·       The center verse in the Bible is Psalms 118:8

·       Does this verse say something significant about God's perfect will?

·       Next time someone says they would like to find God's perfect will for their lives and that they want to know the center of His will, just send them to the center of His Word.

Psalms 118:8 (NKJV)  "It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man"

NOW ISN'T THAT ODD HOW THIS WORKED OUT.......OR WAS GOD IN THE CENTER OF IT?

VBS DECORATING JULY 23RD

VBS is fast approaching and we are buckling down and getting ready.  One of the biggest, and honestly most fun, ways you can help is by helping us decorate.  This year we will transform the education wing and other parts of the church into a magnificent cave to help us better explore God's love.  We will be starting around 4:00pm on July 23rd.  If you would like to help or learn more about VBS this year, please contact Cameron.

Thank you!

The Youth and their adult companions will be leaving for the National Youth Gathering in New Orleans on Wednesday morning.  They thank you for all the support you have given them through HTY Cafes, etc. to make the trip possible.  You can follow the events of the Youth Gathering through the Synod’s web site.  It is:  www.lcms.org

Please keep them all in your prayers.  Those attending are:  Cole Brockoff, Conner Byrd, Kelsey Byrd, Daniel Cearley, Jarrod Eisma, Kendell Faust, Mackie Gregory, Zander Gregory, Abbey Griffin, Aaron Gust, Valerie Gust, Amelia Gutche, Courtney Gutche, Lauren Kellogg, Zeke Peterson, and Matthew Sij.  Their adult leaders are:  Cameron and Terra Pullmann, Pam Pickett, and Dean Eisma.

KEEP SMILING!

A little boy asked his mother why the minister got a month's vacation while his dad only got two weeks.  The mother answered, “Well, son, if he's a good minister, he needs it.   If he isn’t, the congregation needs it.”              -- Garrison Keillor

LIFE QUOTES

“For all the millions of walking wounded in our society, for those who have had an abortion or have been affected by an abortion decision, there is a Word of Hope—Lutherans For Life’s healing ministry. Word of Hope (888.217.8679; www.word-of-hope.org) connects men and women ‘soul wounded’ through the act of abortion to the forgiveness and healing that comes only through knowing that God loves you and sent His Son to free you from the guilt of all sin—including abortion.” Diane E. Schroeder, former president of Lutherans For Life – A Life Quote from Lutherans For Life • www.lutheransforlife.org

TO THINK ABOUT…

Jacob was a cheater.  Peter had a temper.  David had an affair.  Noah got drunk.  Jonah ran from God.  Paul was a murderer.  Gideon was insecure.  Miriam was a gossip.  Mary was a worrier.  Thomas was a doubter.  Sara was impatient.  Elijah was moody.  Moses stuttered.  Zacheus was short.  Abraham was old and Lazarus was dead.  Despite all their excuses, God used each one to build His kingdom.  How about you?

WINDSHIELD WIPER AND A CHILD

From the mouths of babes.  It's all so clear to them. Driving in the rain will never be quite the same.........

One rainy afternoon I was driving along one of the main streets of town, taking those extra precautions necessary when the roads are wet and slick.  Suddenly, my son Matthew spoke up from his relaxed position in the front seat.   “Mom, I'm thinking of something.”  This announcement usually meant he had been pondering some fact for a while and was now ready to expound all that his seven-year-old mind had discovered.  I was eager to hear. “What are you thinking?” I asked.  “The rain,” he began, “is like sin and the windshield wipers are like God, wiping our sins away.”

After the chill bumps raced up my arms I was able to respond.  “That's really good, Matthew.”  Then my curiosity broke in.  How far would this little boy take this revelation?  So I asked... “Do you notice how the rain keeps on coming?  What does that tell you?”   Matthew didn't hesitate one moment with his answer: “We keep on sinning, and God just keeps on forgiving us.”

Who can drive in the rain again without thinking of this???
