The Heavenly Father welcomed outsiders into His household at Christmas (Matthew 2:1, 11). He even escorted them toward His nativity and incarnation by an extraordinary gesture. His loving grace held the magi as precious as His own Son, regardless of their origin and location. God’s favor shines the same way upon unborn ones, even in their sometimes unfavorable circumstances. And His forgiveness embraces all sinners—even those with histories checkered by violence against life.

SR. HIGH LINKT RETREAT – FEB 15-17TH Attention Sr High Youth, your LinkT Retreat is right around the corner! This is great weekend of worship, crazy games and adventures, and deep dives into faith. We will leave around 5pm that Friday and be back around 4pm that Sunday. Cost is $50 a student to help cover food, registration, and travel. Deadline for sign up is Sunday, January 13th.

JAN 20TH UNITY SUNDAY AND HTY CAFE  Reminder of the upcoming Unity Sunday and HTY Café. The youth are deep into National Youth Gathering mode and invite you to a meal they will prepare and serve. This month there will be a Balsamic Pork Loin roast with roasted carrots and rice. The other option will be Chicken Alfredo. All proceeds support our youth and their trip to the NYG.

YOUTH SKI TRIP – JAN 26TH Attention Jr and Sr High. Sign up for our trip to Snow Creek in Missouri for a Saturday of skiing/snowboarding. Open to beginners and veterans alike and there will be lessons available for people who are new to the sport. We will leave early that morning and be back in the evening after 7 most likely. We are also looking for chaperones, let Cameron know if you are interested. Cost is $30 to help cover rental and travel.

ADULT BIBLE CLASS  I have an announcements regarding my Bible class meeting in classroom one.  Starting TODAY, we will start a new study.  The study will concentrate on Old Testament People.  We will begin with Joshua and then study Ruth, Samuel, David and Solomon.  Men and women, younger and older you are all invited and welcomed to join us.  If you have any questions please contact Pam Pickett.

 THANK YOU We are thankful for the cards, meals, emails and prayers the last few months while Mary has been dealing with cancer. All the treatments are done now. She goes back in a year for a follow up to make sure the cancer is gone. The support of our church family has been such a blessing. God is good!

Simeon had to wait for the consolation of Israel (Luke 2:25). No doubt his unfulfilled longings robbed him of dignity in the eyes of observers. But his extended approach toward death gave uplifting witness to the Lord’s relentless faithfulness. Equipped with this greater dignity, Simeon offered even his sufferings as sacrifice to serve the Lord’s will and the wellbeing of others. As we also die with Christ, He dignifies our deaths as well. Ancient of Days, we commend our lives and our deaths into Your hands. Amen.

 1.   Wake Up !!

Decide to have a good day.

 2.   Dress Up !!

The best way to dress up is to put on a smile. A smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks.

The Lord clears away these enemies (Zephaniah 3:15) with His uncon-ditional love. Law and conscience convict us of promoting and even participating in violence against life. CHILDREN'S CHRISTMAS PROGRAM  The Children's Christmas Program scheduled for Wednesday Dec. 19.  Practices have begun and will continue December 16 during the Sunday School hour.  If you have any questions please ask one of the Sunday School teachers. Thank you for your support!  

 CHRISTMAS BASKETS Each year the church tries to help those in need through our Food Pantry. At Christmas time we try to do something special by giving Christmas Baskets to members or those requested by a member. Please notify the church office A.S.A.P. if you would like to request a basket.  Deadline to notify the office is TODAY, Dec. 16. If you would like to donate Christmas items/food for the baskets please turn in to office A.S.A.P. If you would like to volunteer to help get baskets put together or delivered please let the office know, too.

CAMPUS CONNECTion  THANK YOU to Dean Eisma, Shirley Bernthal, Cameron Pullmann, and Amy Wright for their help with the college students' care packages.  Some of these church members helped me bake home made goodies and the rest helped me sort, package, and mail the boxes.  I could not have done this without you ALL this year!  Most of the boxes were mailed out on Thursday so they should arrive in time for finals.  Thank you!!  Casey Bolte

 OUTREACH STUFFED ANIMAL COLLECTION   THANK YOU so much for your generosity towards the Arkansas Children's Hospital's Faithful Friends program.  Our church donated over 200 stuffed animals to Scott Martin, the chaplain at the hospital and manager of the Faithful Friends program.  Through the program, he will give the stuffed animals to children newly admitted as inpatient to the hospital.  

 ADULT BIBLE CLASS  I have two announcements regarding my Bible class meeting in classroom one.  The first one is that we will not be meeting on Sunday December 23rd as I will be out of town for Christmas.  The second is that starting January 6th 2019 we will start a new study.  The study will concentrate on Old Testament People.  We will begin with Joshua and then study Ruth, Samuel, David and Solomon.  Men and women, younger and older you are all invited and welcomed to join us.  If you have any questions please contact Pam Pickett.

GREETERS, READERS, VIDEO OPERATORS, COUNTERS, AND OFFICE HELPERS  We are working on assignments for the first quarter of 2019.  Please let the office know if there is a time that you cannot serve during January, February, or March.  Let us know too, if changes cause you to withdraw from areas where you previously served, or if you want to serve in an area that you have not requested.  We particularly need video operators for both services.  Cameron has installed new software which makes this operation much easier.  Talk to Cameron if you need reassurance before you volunteer.

CHRISTMAS CARDS  Please remember to donate your Christmas cards to mission crafts after the holidays.  There is a bin in the Narthex where you can leave them.  Thank you so much.

Dr. Michael Zeigler  When people use the word "redeem" outside of religious context, they tend to use it in a commercial sense-redeeming points from purchases or casino tokens for cash. In the Bible, the word "redeem" is used in a family setting. In the story of Ruth, Boaz is a "kinsman redeemer," who points to Jesus, our capital-r-Redeemer. Jesus has done more than pay our points. He redeems by bringing us into his clan, his people, his household, that we might be with him forever. (Ruth 3-4)

Half the crown is of thorns, the other of Glory, showing our saviour victory over death in which we share. Order forms and concept art can be found in the narthex or talk to the nearest youth about ordering yours. Today is the last day!

CHILDREN'S CHRISTMAS PROGRAM  The Children's Christmas Program scheduled for Wednesday Dec 19.  Practices have begun and will continue December 2, 9 and 16 during the Sunday School hour.  Additionally we will have a dress rehearsal on Dec 9 after second service.  Lunch will be provided.   We still have parts available if your child would like to participate!   If you have any questions please ask one of the Sunday School teachers. Thank you for your support!  

CHRISTMAS BASKETS Each year the church tries to help those in need through our Food Pantry. At Christmas time we try to do something special by giving Christmas Baskets to members or those requested by a member. Please notify the church office A.S.A.P. if you would like to request a basket.  Deadline to notify the office is Dec. 16. If you would like to donate Christmas items/food for the baskets please turn in to office A.S.A.P. If you would like to volunteer to help get baskets put together or delivered please let the office know, too.

 HELPING HANDS  Holy Trinity is scheduled to assist at Helping Hands on January , 2019.  The signup sheet has been posted in the Narthex.  We need volunteers.  Many thanks.

CHRISTMAS PARADE  It is time to decorate the float for the Roger's Christmas Parade.  We will meet at the Eisma's (3008 W Capps Rd Rogers) at 1:00 pm Sunday December 2nd.    Snacks will be provided!  The parade is Friday Dec 7 at 7:00 pm.  We would love to have a few angels and shepherds on the float....so if your child would like to ride on the float please let Nancy Eisma or Kelly Faust know so we can plan accordingly.     Thank you!

THANK YOU SO MUCH   Mike and Mary Girshner would like to thank everyone who brought food, sent cards and offered prayers during Mary's recent surgery and recovery. Your love and concern was a picture of God's love. Mike is getting really good at heating up frozen meals! We thank you so much for caring. It has made the process so much easier for us. Mary had surgery again on Friday, Nov. 30. We appreciate your continued prayers for healing. God is good.

 CHRISTMAS DECORATING  It will soon be time to decorate the church for Christmas.  The tentative decoration date is Saturday, December 1st.  We will begin at 10:30am.  Decorating duties include (but are not limited to) fluffing bows and arrangements, sorting decorations, hanging decorations on the tree, attaching arrangements to the front of the pews, etc…  We also need one brave soul to go up the ladder and decorate the top of the tree.  When we have enough volunteers, this process is quick and easy – only lasting a couple of hours.  To volunteer, please contact Casey Bolte at (479) 644-3618.  LIFE THOUGHTS IN THE CHURCH.  Incurable conditions can feel like the floods lifting their roar (Psalm 93:3). Complicated pregnancies can thunder. We get to remind sufferers how our Lord reigns over them, and He reigns in them. His blood frees us from our sins (Revelation 1:5). ADVENT BY CANDLELIGHT  Every year on the first Sunday of December the women of the congregation gather together for a candlelight celebration.  This is a combination party/Bible study/sing along.  The theme this year is “Animals of the Christmas Story” and all our music will be traditional carols.   This is a ladies only event and we ask our guests be at least 14 years old.  All you need to bring is an appetizer to share.  This is a great event to invite your neighbor, co-worker or family member to join you.  Each year almost half of the guests are nonmembers and quite a few of those come every year.

BAPTISM NEXT SUNDAY   Emberly Ann Girshner, daughter of Josh and LeAnn, will be baptized next Sunday, Nov. 25th, during the 2nd service. The family will host a “Come Meet the Baby” visit in the Life Center directly after service with cake and punch. Please stop in for a few minutes to say hello to Emmy. THANKSGIVING YOUTH CAFÉ FUNDRAISER  Join the youth this Sunday for our Thanksgiving HTY Café Fundraiser for the National Youth Gathering. It will all start down in the Life Center after Unity Service. The only one who doesn’t like Thanksgiving meal twice in one year is my bathroom scale! There will be Turkey dinner, a chicken pasta option, a butternut squash soup, along with the usual suspects. See you there!

 DECK THE HALLS   It will soon be time to decorate the church for Christmas.  The tentative decoration date is Saturday, December 1st.  We will begin at 10:30am.  Decorating duties include (but are not limited to) fluffing bows and arrangements, sorting decorations, hanging decorations on the tree, attaching arrangements to the front of the pews, etc…  We also need one brave soul to go up the ladder and decorate the top of the tree.  When we have enough volunteers, this process is quick and easy – only lasting a couple of hours.  To volunteer, please contact Casey Bolte at (479) 644-3618. CROWN SHIRT FUNDRAISER A new fundraiser this year to raise money for our youth and their trip to the National Youth Gathering. The shirts are white with a black crown on them. Half the crown is of thorns, the other of Glory, showing our saviour victory over death in which we share. TRUNK OR TREAT  A HUGE shoutout and thanks to everyone who helped with our Trunk or Treat this year. Thank you for understanding and being so quick to move inside. We had quite the turnout this year, possible because of the weather and our move indoors. I wanted to share with the congregation a message we received right after the event via facebook from a member of our community.

 "Your church did an excellent job with the trunk or treat. presented the gospel and gave the children a good time even tho the weather was crummy.  Thank you, good job and well done my family and the community enjoyed it."

DECK THE HALLS   We need volunteers to help decorate the church for Christmas.  The tentative decoration date is Saturday, December 1st.  We will begin at 10:30am.  Decorating duties include (but are not limited to) fluffing bows and arrangements, sorting decorations, hanging decorations on the tree, attaching arrangements to the front of the pews, etc…  We also need one brave soul to go up the ladder and decorate the top of the tree.  When we have enough volunteers, this process is quick and easy – only lasting a couple of hours.  To volunteer, please contact Casey Bolte at (479) 644-3618. NEW BIBLE CLASS STARTING! - Starting November 18th we will begin a study of the Book of Isaiah.  We will go verse by verse and discuss the scripture and how it pertains to us in the here and now.  We meet in in Classroom 1 and start at 9:30 each Sunday morning. OUTREACH OPPORTUNITY  Arkansas Children’s Hospital Northwest has a “Faithful Friends Program” administered through their chaplain – Scott Martin.  The goal of the program is to provide a stuffed animal (Faithful Friend) and a colorful story book to newly admitted patients each weekday morning.  During the Outreach Ministry Team’s survey, we mentioned collecting stuffed animals to support this program.  Unfortunately, due to a death in the family, we were not able to start the collection as soon as we had hoped.  We are starting NOW!  We will collect  NEW stuffed animals starting today through Sunday, November 18th.  Please place them in the Narthex below the mobile bulletin board with “OUTREACH” on it.  THANK YOU to all who donated immediately – those animals have already been given to the program as they were desperately needed.   If you have any questions, please contact Casey Bolte (479-644-3618) or Dave Lehenbauer (479-273-0213).

ANOTHER THANK YOU  I would like to give a heartfelt thank you to everyone for the prayers for my Mom , for me, and for my family, during my Mom's illness and the aftermath of her death .The sympathy cards, phone calls, emails, and all the support were deeply appreciated. I, particularly, would like to thank, Elaine Taylor, who covered the office, and also Joyce Bauer, who helped her. I appreciate the time to make arrangements, to celebrate Mom's life, to grieve, and to get over the  flu.

OUTREACH OPPORTUNITY  Arkansas Children’s Hospital Northwest has a “Faithful Friends Program” administered through their chaplain – Scott Martin.  The goal of the program is to provide a stuffed animal (Faithful Friend) and a colorful story book to newly admitted patients each weekday morning.  During the Outreach Ministry Team’s survey, we mentioned collecting stuffed animals to support this program.  Unfortunately, due to a death in the family, we were not able to start the collection as soon as we had hoped.  We are starting NOW!  We will collect NEW stuffed animals starting today through Sunday, November 18th.  Please place them in the Narthex below the mobile bulletin board with “OUTREACH” on it.  THANK YOU to all who donated immediately – those animals have already been given to the program as they were desperately needed.   If you have any questions, please contact Casey Bolte (479-644-3618) or Dave Lehenbauer (479-273-0213).

PASTOR’S RETIREMENT DINNER IS TODAY:   Appetizers will be served after our 10: 45 A.M. church service. The dinner is to start at 1:00 P.M. in the Life Center.

 NEW MEN’S BIBLE STUDY STARTS TODAY.  Our study will focus on the book of Romans.  Martin Luther said this about the book of Romans—“This epistle is the real chief part of the New Testament, and the very purest Gospel, which deserves that a Christian not only know it word for word, but also deal with it daily as with the daily bread for the soul...”  Well, we won’t learn it word for word, but we will study it intently to see what God is telling us about Grace, love, Jesus, forgiveness, and a host of other important topics.  This first class will start at 9:30-ish and will continue for probably 12-15 weeks, which will take us thru the entire winter months.  Come and get your donuts, and a cup of coffee!  FORGET ABOUT HUNTING DEER—TAKE TIME TO HUNT THRU THE SCRIPTURE FOR REAL MEAT!!  PLEASE JOIN US—all you need to bring is your Bible.  God bless you guys in this study!!         Dave Lehenbauer

 CONDOLENCES  We wish to offer our sympathy to Charles and Debbie Wilken upon the sudden death of their daughter, Stephanie Conner (a regular attender here) last Sunday.  She is also the sister of Chris Wilken.  A funeral service for Stephanie will be held here at Holy Trinity on Friday afternoon at 2 PM.  It will be officiated by her uncle, Rev. Russ Shewmaker, from Pilgrim Lutheran in Jonesboro.

GREETERS, READERS, VIDEO OPERATORS  The office is getting ready to schedule servers for Advent and Christmas.  Please let us know if you are AVAILABLE to serve.  Advent, Children’s Service, and Christmas Eve services are at 7:00 pm.  Christmas Day service is at 10:00 am (December 5, 12. 19, 24 and 25).   We are so thankful for all you do.

DECK THE HALLS   We need volunteers to help decorate the church for Christmas.  The tentative decoration date is Saturday, December 1st.  We will begin at 10:30am.  Decorating duties include (but are not limited to) fluffing bows and arrangements, sorting decorations, hanging decorations on the tree, attaching arrangements to the front of the pews, etc…  We also need one brave soul to go up the ladder and decorate the top of the tree.  When we have enough volunteers, this process is quick and easy – only lasting a couple of hours.  To volunteer, please contact Casey Bolte at (479) 644-3618. CAMPUS CONNECTion:  We are looking for someone to take the lead role in this outreach. The leader organizes church members to bake homemade goodies for our college students twice a year (Fall and Spring) & pray for those students.  They also pack & mail out the care packages to the college students. FEED MY SHEEP   Next Sunday is our monthly food drive to benefit our food pantry. Please bring your food or money donations next week. In August, we helped 313 people. Thank you for your support!

 HELPING HANDS   Holy Trinity is scheduled to volunteer at Helping Hands Thrift Store on Saturday, October 6.  A sign-up sheet is posted on the bulletin board in the Narthex. Helping Hands Inc. is a non-profit organization operated as a partnership of 26 churches in Benton County. Proceeds from the thrift store are used to meet the needs of Benton County residents through their assistance programs.

PINOCHLE    We will be gathering once again on Oct. 5th, the first Friday of the

month, to play cards & have fellowship. Set-up is at 6:00 P.M.  Card play will begin at 6:30 P.M.  Do not forget to bring a treat to share & a friend who might want to learn the game.

MILITARY BIBLESTICKS   Thank you for your support of providing Biblesticks for our military chaplains.  This year, the people of Holy Trinity donated $2,050 which provides 163 Biblesticks.  Over the last few years, the people of Holy Trinity have touched 520 military families with Biblesticks and Bible downloads for spouses and children.  Thank you for your generous support.

HTY CAFÉ ON OCTOBER 14   Support our youth in their journey to the National Youth Gathering in Minneapolis in July 2019 and get a sweet meal out of the deal. Head down to the Life Center after second service on Oct. 14 for some smoked pork, a grilled chicken sandwich, or any of our usual’s like burgers and chicken nuggets. All proceeds go to the youth who prepare and serve your food! Thank you for your support. 

CAMPUS CONNECTion:  We are looking for someone to take the lead role in this outreach. The leader organizes church members to bake homemade goodies for our college students twice a year (Fall and Spring) & pray for those students.  They also pack & mail out the care packages to the college students. ELDER UPDATE ON PASTOR SEARCH

We want to keep everyone up to date with what we are doing to replace Pastor Besel after his retirement on October 21st.  On August 7, 2018 the Council and Elders met with President Paavola of the Mid-South district to plan for a replacement for Pastor Besel after his retirement. President Paavola suggested we consider an interim Pastor. His experience suggests that after a pastor has been at a congregation as long as Pastor Besel has been at Holy Trinity, the possibility for success of the new pastor is very low.  Pastor Besel agreed with President Paavola based on what he has seen at other churches.

After our meeting the Council and Elders agreed to call an interim Pastor. The interim Pastor would be here for 18 months and then we would call a permanent Pastor. It will take approximately 3 to 4 months to call the interim Pastor. We have to complete a congregational survey to find out what we are looking for in a new pastor, submit the information to the Mid-South District and they will match Holy Trinity to a group of Pastors who fit our criteria, and then our call committee would interview the candidates and call the interim Pastor. This would be the same process for our permanent Pastor. In most cases we would NOT be able to call the interim Pastor as our permanent Pastor.

In the mean time we would have visiting Pastors to conduct our weekly services.  If you have any concerns or input, please feel free to contact you Elder or Council members.  We will keep you informed on our progress.   Please pray for GOD to lead the right Pastor to Holy Trinity.                       --Brent Garner, Chairman, Elders

 OFFICE HOURS  Because our office manager, Elaine Taylor, is on vacation for the first part of the week, the office hours for this week are Monday and Tuesday, September 24 and 25, 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.  We will return to normal hours 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. on Wednesday.  We want to thank Kim McConnell for helping us in the office while Elaine has been gone.

MILITARY BIBLESTICKS   Over the last several years, the members and friends of Holy Trinity have provided Military Biblesticks for 357 servicemen.  These Biblesticks are only available through military chaplains.  So far this year, churches have provided 120,000 Biblesticks for chaplains to give away.  They currently have requests for 17,000 more at $25 each.  There is a donor who is matching all the gifts in August and September.  If you want to provide one or more, today is the last day to place your gift in the offering plate.

CAMP TRINITY   The Lutheran Camp on Petit Jean is now Camp Trinity. The board voted to change the camp name in glory to God – Creator, Redeemer and Sanctifier – and in honor of the generations of faithful followers of Christ who worshiped at Trinity Lutheran Church for a century before the creation of the camp. The church, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is now fully restored to its original condition and appearance. (“Lutheran Camp on Petit Jean” will remain the camp’s corporate name, dba Camp Trinity.)

Come hear some of the most talented church musicians in Arkansas as they bring glory to God at the first-ever Battle of the Praise Bands. The contest is Saturday, Sept. 29, at Camp Trinity, the Lutheran camp on Petit Jean Mountain. Admission is free. You can enjoy barbecue dinners and concessions, games for the whole family, and tours of the camp to see the most recent improvements. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

MILITARY BIBLESTICKS   Over the last several years, the members and friends of Holy Trinity have provided Military Biblesticks for 357 servicemen.  These Biblesticks are only available through military chaplains.  So far this year, churches have provided 120,000 Biblesticks for chaplains to give away.  They currently have requests for 17,000 more at $25 each.  There is a donor who is matching all the gifts in August and September.  If you want to provide one or more, place your gift in the offering plate by next Sunday, September 16. 

PASSION PLAY AREA APPRECIATION  Discount tickets for the Passion Play in Eureka Springs are available for Benton County Residents in August and October.  Tickets are $17 for adults, $7 for youth (12-16) and $5 for children (4-11).  Call their toll free number (800-882-7529) for discounted tickets.  For general information about the Passion Play, go to their web site:  http://www.greatpassionplay.org

JR HIGH LINKT RETREAT  Attention 6th-8th grade students. Jr High LinkT Retreat is Oct 19-21st at Camp Trinity. The theme this year is Unknown and how we are known and loved by our king. LIFE THOUGHTS IN CHURCH Abortions, assisted suicides, and embryo-destroying experiments all discriminate. These actions assign value according to age, appearance, ability, environment, or history. The Gospel of Jesus Christ eagerly dispenses with such partiality (James 2:1, 5). The Word of His grace proclaims life to those in need and then performs it with and for them (James 2:17-18). How may we echo and imitate this miracle in our neighborhoods? Humble Lord Jesus, teach us poverty of pride that we may obtain riches in relationships. Amen.

 COMMUNICANT MEMBER SURVEY  Today is the target date for the return of the surveys.  The call process is long and arduous, and the input from each of you is critical.  There is a basket on the table which can be used for completed surveys, or you can drop it at the office or place in Bonnie Gust’s mailbox.

BEV LEHENBAUER FUNERAL  The funeral for Bev Lehenbauer will be held at Holy Trinity at 7:00 pm this Thursday, September 6.

 LIFE THOUGHTS IN CHURCH –– Life issues can present great temptations. The complications of surprise pregnancies pressure folks into adding to God’s Word. Infertility and terminal illnesses steer many toward subtracting from the Lord’s commands (Deuteronomy 4:2). Still, He who takes ownership of the inner life by His forgiveness also takes responsibility for the body’s survival by His resurrection. His presence and promises arm and guard against every threat (Ephesians 6:11). Good Shepherd and Guardian, give security to us and through us in Your words. Amen.

COMMUNICANT MEMBER SURVEY  The recent mailing of the Communicant Survey  about what you are looking for in a pastor was intended for EACH Communicant Member.  Yes, that includes Confirmed young adults in the household.  The computer system, in its infinite wisdom, only mailed one survey per household.  (Yes, I could have changed that, but I missed it – Mea Culpa).  Extra copies of the survey have been placed on the table in the Narthex.  Please help yourself to as many copies as needed by your family.  There is a basket on the same table which can be used for completed surveys.   – Elaine Taylor
